50mm standard prime lens gives 46.2 degrees field of view with a
fast aperture of T1.5 (f/1.4) for great low light videography /
photography and shallow depth of field work. Splendid image quality and
small depth of field with beautiful, natural rendered bokeh by use of 8
circular aperture blades makes it especially suited to film, where
separation of the subject from the background is desired.
Optics of the lens consists of nine lens elements arranged in six groups (including one aspherical and one hybrid aspherical lens element). To ensure high contrast and faithful colour reproduction, all lens elements have been covered with Samyang's multi-layered UMC anti-reflective coatings.
The Samyang VDSLR versions are rated in T-Stops rather than F-stops which is usual for movie camera lenses. F-stop number expresses the speed of the lens on the assumption that lens transmits 100% of the incident light. The T-number expresses the actual light transmission, which is more accurate, and is the standard in professional cine lenses.
